Under the supervision of the Clinical Manager, the Provisional Psychologist works collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team members to ensure success in clinical service delivery.  Provide timely mental health assessment and treatment to preschoolers, children, adolescents, and their families. Practice code of ethics and practice standards of their specific discipline and applies the principles of evidence-informed practice to all aspects of this work.  The Mental Health Therapist nurtures collaborative linkages with community partners.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide clinical services unique to the appropriate professional discipline (psychology, social work, nursing, occupational therapy).
  • Provide clinical services to a caseload of children and families; the size of the caseload to be determined in consultation with the Senior Therapist and Director Community and Outreach Services.
  • Conduct comprehensive bio-psycho-social mental health assessments of assigned preschoolers, children, adolescents, and families.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans using a variety of treatment approaches including family therapy, play therapy, filial therapy and other individual and group psychotherapies.
  • Conduct psycho-educational support and treatment groups for children and parents.
  • Carry out case management functions including convening case conferences, and liaising with community services and other professionals involved with the child and family (especially education, social services, justice, and health).
  • Advocate on behalf of the child and family as appropriate..

 Leadership and Education

  • Contribute to staff knowledge and understanding of discipline-specific issues.
  • Plans for and engages in continuous learning opportunities.

Program and Organization

  • Contribute to program planning.
  • Contributes to the development and use of performance indicators and other activities related to continuous quality improvement.
  • Participate in research as appropriate.
  • Participate regularly and constructively in program and clinical team meetings.
  • Executes other tasks or responsibilities as required from time to time

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree in Clinical Psychology.
  • A minimum of 2 years clinical practice in child and family mental health and/or youth addictions.
  • Ability to work autonomously, independently and to prioritize work activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new or unexpected situations, flexibility in approach to interpersonal situations.
  • Appreciation of interdisciplinary approach to mental health illness.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and build consensus.
  • Excellent assessment and treatment skills.
  • Excellent case management skills.
  • Strong grasp of the principles of evidence-based practice.
  • Respect for other disciplines and an ability to work collaboratively with diverse individuals and groups.
