Mental Health Therapist Full Time Hybrid Role

Under the supervision of the Clinical Manager, the Mental Health Therapist works collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team members to ensure success in clinical service delivery. The Mental Health Therapist provides timely mental health assessment and treatment to preschoolers, children, adolescents, and their families. The Mental Health Therapist practices code of ethics and practice standards of their specific discipline and applies the principles of evidence-informed practice to all aspects of this work. The Mental Health Therapist nurtures collaborative linkages with community partners.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical
- Provide clinical services unique to the appropriate professional discipline (psychology, social work, nursing, occupational therapy).
- Provide clinical services to a caseload of children and families; the size of the caseload to be determined in consultation with the Senior Therapist and Director Community and Outreach Services.
- Conduct comprehensive bio-psycho-social mental health assessments of assigned preschoolers, children, adolescents, and families.
- Formulate a diagnosis as appropriate using the DSM V or any other diagnostic tool currently in general use in the program.
- Develop and implement treatment plans using a variety of treatment approaches including family therapy, play therapy, filial therapy and other individual and group psychotherapies.
- Conduct psycho-educational support and treatment groups for children and parents.
- Carry out case management functions including convening case conferences, and liaising with community services and other professionals involved with the child and family (especially education, social services, justice, and health).
- Advocate on behalf of the child and family as appropriate.
- Be an active, contributing member of a multi-disciplinary clinical team whose purpose is assessment and treatment case review, and consultation.
- Follow agency policy and practice regarding admission, discharge and maintenance of health records.
Leadership and Education
- Contribute to staff knowledge and understanding of discipline-specific issues.
- Provide preceptorship to students and interns as assigned.
- Educate staff about clinical practices and developments in the field relevant to the specific discipline.
- Plans for and engages in continuous learning opportunities.
Program and Organization
- Contribute to program planning.
- Contributes to the development and use of performance indicators and other activities related to continuous quality improvement.
- Participate in research as appropriate.
- Participate regularly and constructively in program and clinical team meetings.
- Executes other tasks or responsibilities as required from time to time
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate degree in Clinical Psychology, Social Work (with psycho-social intervention designation), or Occupational Therapy or Nursing. Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse with undergraduate degree may be considered with demonstrated extensive therapy background.
- A minimum of 2 years clinical practice in child and family mental health and/or youth addictions.
- Must be a member in good standing with their respective professional association/college.
- Ability to work autonomously, independently and to prioritize work activities.
