The Clinical Manager of Therapy Services is a pivotal role that works collaboratively to provide leadership and management to designated programs, teams, and staff towards the aim of advancing high quality and timely service for children and families.

The Clinical Manager is responsible for the daily operation of Therapy Services, the accountable utilization of resources, supporting the professional practice of staff, and in employee engagement and wellness initiatives. The Clinical Manager also develops creative, team-based approaches for management of the mental health services within their portfolios.

This position works in partnership within the community as we strengthen child and youth mental health services through clearer clinical pathways, effective and efficient services, and sector and cross-sector partnerships in Halton.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the day-to-day operations, clinical planning, and quality improvement work in compliance with the Core and Community Plans, Strategic Plan, accreditation standards, and legislative requirements.
  • Manage the therapy team to ensure there are well defined goals that support the agency’s outcomes.
  • Participate and advise in the recruiting, hiring, and discharge of employees as necessary to support the allocation of human resources needed to meet our service obligations.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the agency’s policies and procedures to mentor staff in the provision of direct support and supervision for all operational and administrative issues.
  • Promote employee engagement and create a culture with clear expectations and accountabilities.
  • Foster resiliency and wellness through the development of staff by providing training opportunities, regular performance evaluations, and ongoing feedback.
  • Provide leadership in advancing the goals and objectives of the program and a key player in service development/evolution.
  • Meet with cohorts collectively to provide the broader organizational perspectives, create opportunities for information exchange, problem solving, and fostering opportunities for change and innovation
  • Participate as a committee member, leader, or supporter as required (quality improvement and client safety, accreditation, related community committees, program evaluation, manager’s meetings).
  • Participate in ongoing training opportunities to ensure contemporary knowledge of children’s mental health.
  • Provide training to the agency and the community partners, as requested.
  • Participate in the rotation of after-hours support (approximately one out of every eight weeks).
  • Collaborate with other community groups or agencies that are delivering clinical programs or services.
  • Ensure staff have complied with all agency data requirements to ensure adherence with agency reporting for the ministries (MOHLTC and MCCSS).
  • Actively participate in the implementation of client safety practices across the agency, identify and bring client safety issues up for senior management to review, and champion client safety initiatives, as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with the specific requirements of Section 27 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as any further health and safety responsibilities outlined in the agency’s policies and procedures.

Therapy Services

  • Provide leadership and clinical supervision to Therapy Services staff in implementing high quality treatment services designed to meet the needs of clients and their families.
  • Provide leadership and treatment direction to Therapy Services programs.
  • Provide support to teams/staff in the implementation of clinical treatment plans for individual youth.
  • Monitor relevant changes/updates to legislation that impact the operation of Crisis Services programs..
  • Monitor relevant changes reporting tools pertaining to Client Safety Incidents, including Serious Occurrence Reports.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • A minimum of a master’s degree (Social Work, Education, or Psychology) with eligibility for membership in the appropriate regulatory body.

Experience:

  • A minimum of three to five years’ supervisory/management experience working in mental health, social services, or primary health care settings.
  • Proven Quality Improvement (QI) planning and program implementation experience.
  • Solid understanding of legislation relevant to leading staff, (i.e., ESA, OHSA, OHRC).
  • Knowledge and experience in adult education strategies/facilitation.
  • Practical and current knowledge of relevant industry legislation.

  • Highly developed interpersonal, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain a healthy workplace, including fair and equitable work practices.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Additional Requirements:

  • Established working relationships within community service providers is an asset.
  • Available to work flexible hours according to client and/or program needs.
  • Proficient in the use of technology as required of the position. MAC OS operating systems experience preferred.
  • Competency in working from a virtual platform and in a virtual environment.
  • A criminal reference check with vulnerable sector search.
