Job Summary:
Working for an Insurance Client, the role of the Case Manager is to manage a caseload of regular and complex long term disability cases, alongside a team, using abilities based approach. This unique position plans, conducts, documents and evaluates all activities and decisions by providing overall case management consulting to ensure a high level of support to the client and their employee. Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and policy requirements when assessing medical fitness for duty and managing the disability management program while working as a member of a multi-professional team which includes responsibility for evaluating disability and medical fitness for duty of individuals.
Role Responsibilities:
• Build strong relationships with plan sponsors, working in partnership with them to address their workplace absence issues;
• Engage plan members through open and respectful communication to understand the medical, social and personal dimensions of their workplace absence;
• Assess claims for benefit entitlement by reviewing contractual, medical, functional and occupational information;
• Work collaboratively with plan members, plan sponsors, lawyers, health care practitioners and other stakeholders to obtain information, provide claim status, create action plans and provide verbal and written decisions while maintaining confidentiality and privacy;
• Conduct telephone interviews to obtain information to ensure complete understanding of the absence and types of support required to assist with return to work planning;
• Identify and assess medical and non-medical influencing factors and post disability, functional capability, restrictions and limitations to better understand what support is needed to get plan members back to work;
• Contribute to a dynamic work environment by identifying opportunities to improve processes and customer service delivery.
Role Requirements:
• Post secondary degree in a related discipline such as Kinesiology, Human Resources; or equivalent combination of education and working experience;
• A willingness to roll up your sleeves to uncover information, positive attitude with commitment to high quality service;
• A confident team player with the ability to take initiative and handle difficult situations in a fast-paced environment with excellent time management and organizational skills;
• Bilingual – English & French;
• Strong written and verbal communications skills and an ability to work with all levels of the business;
• Excellent listening skills and capacity for empathy;
• Minimum Two (2) years disability case management experience;
• Previous knowledge of disability products;
• Acts with a high degree of professionalism with all levels; displays exceptional customer service skills;
• Must have excellent computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office.
