SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor of Autism Services, the Behaviour Therapist provides services based on the science of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). The Behaviour Therapist will work collaboratively with families using a virtual platform or in-person (in centre, home, or the community).
The Behaviour Therapist is responsible for assessment, behaviour plan development, documentation preparation, data analysis, training parents/caregivers using the BST model, and working collaboratively with peers and other service providers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide intervention to children and youth with autism spectrum disorders (ASD).
- Use the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) to train families and service providers to address the needs that children/youth with ASD have, in the areas of communication, social/interpersonal skills, daily living skills, behaviour management/self-regulation, play and leisure skills, vocational skills, etc.
- Participate in the development and delivery of both individualized and group interventions under a Board-Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) supervision.
- Operationalize client safety by adhering to established policies and guidelines that ensure consistency in delivering quality and safe care and by identifying and reporting any client safety incidents.
- Ensure compliance with the specific requirements of Section 28 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as any other health and safety responsibilities outlined in the agency’s policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A master’s degree in ABA or equivalent.
- Individuals who are working towards a master’s degree and possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or degree-granting institution, and post graduate diploma in the Behavioural Sciences field (e.g., BST diploma) may be considered.
Experience:
- At least two and a half years of experience delivering services using ABA with children and youth with an autism spectrum disorder, up to age 21, under the supervision of a BCBA or Registered Psychologist with experience in ABA.
- Experience working with and developing programming for children and youth with communication challenges, social skills needs, daily living skills challenges, play and leisure skill needs, vocational skill needs, children and youth who engage in challenging behavior, etc.
- Experience writing behaviour plans in the areas of communication, maladaptive behaviour reduction, self-regulation, daily living skills, social skills, play and leisure skills, vocational skills, etc.
- Experience training parents and caregivers to implement behaviour plans.
- Experience providing family-centred practice.
- Experience providing both group and individual ABA interventions.
- Experience working with clients who have a dual diagnosis.
Skills:
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are essential.
- Ability to work well independently.
- Strong computer literacy; MS Word and Excel competencies are crucial.
